Ewan Lacey

Ewan Lacey is a wine writer and is currently the wine expert on Channel 4’s ‘The Cookery School.’
He is deeply passionate about finding the story behind the wine and explaining this in a way that’s easy to understand. Ewan is driven to make wine accessible to anyone who wants to know about it and believes that, somewhere out there, there is a wine for everyone.

Ewan’s interest in the drinks business is deep rooted and dates back to the end of his school days when he dabbled in making his own beer. This, however, proved only to be a phase – put to an end when his home brew kit exploded all over his bedroom wardrobe.

Whilst studying for his law degree, Ewan worked in restaurants and bars in places as far flung as Mexico, Israel, Austria, Denmark and Scotland. It was during his time, working as a cocktail barman, in Copenhagen’s busiest bar that Ewan learnt to train his palate as he invented new takes on classic drinks.

He moved from Scotland to London and embarked on a career running restaurants in the West End. Throughout this period, his interest in wine deepened and a career in the London Wine Trade beckoned. Working as a consultant wine buyer he developed wine lists and trained sommeliers for some of London’s top restaurants and best hotels.

When not filming or writing about wine, Ewan loves to bring wine to a live audience – whether they are wine trade professionals, ordinary people, or some of our country’s best loved companies.

Ewan hosts wine courses which are always fun, informative and relaxed. He has designed a range of wine tasting events that are tailored to make any occasion special. He loves working with top celebrity chefs, whether designing and delivering great food and wine matching events, or hosting themed dinners. Ewan is also a dynamic after dinner speaker and an accomplished awards ceremony host.
