Chateau Bages Sang in Berkeley Square  E-mail
I had a very good dinner at Pasley Tyler in the very pretty Georgian House in Berkeley Square, formerly the extravagant HQ of Polly Peck and the infamous Northern Cyprus resident Asil Nadir.
Cooking was excellent and simple, and Sylvie Cazes-Regimbeau of the family, which owns Lynch Bages, joined us. Wines were lovely.

We drank some excellent vintages, and had some great surprises, particularly the 1986 – better than the 1985!?. Comments please.

Here are my notes:

Blanc de Lynch Bages 2002

Citrus, bright – light and fresh – attractive, but not too serious.

Lynch Bages 1970 Magnum

Lovely colour, mineral earthy, leathery – a bit dry but charming.

Lynch Bages 1982 Double Magnum

Tight and young, great structure, a bite of tannin – very good indeed, very young still in big format.

Lynch Bages 1985

Round, elegant, voluptuous – beautiful well knit – ‘a point’ – long and very classic.

Lynch Bages 1986

Very big, tough, needs time, very classic, good acidity – this is very good, surprisingly delicious, but a bit awkward, still – will be excellent.

Lynch Bages 1990

Ripe, soft, great structure, this is quite excellent and perfect balance – bloody marve lous wine, lots of time to go.
