The tasting notes:

Chateau Chatain 2002 Montagne Saint Emilion; A soft easy to drink claret, now mature, light in style typical of this
vintage. Good quaffing and undemanding wine with nice balance and some good mineral and wild berry character.  £85.80 per case of 12 bottles (£7.15per bottle)including duty and VAT.

Chateau des Charmilles, Cuvee Emilie, 2003 , Graves;  Good structure here, with some lovely sweet fruit, and a hint of toffee and mineral typical of this very ripe vintage. I like this for being "Graves-like" with it's almost medicinal
mineral character and good grip.  £102 per case of 12(£8.50 per bottle) including all tax.

Chateau Tour Castillon 2003 Cru Bourgeois Medoc;  Probably the favourite of the evening, for it's lively bright but ripe fruitiness, yet soft and easy drinking character but with a typical Bordeaux "bite" of tannin and acidity.
Francois the Patron of St Julien, served a lovely rustic terrine with this wine which brought out the sweet fruit and the complex flavours . £84 per case of 12 (£7.00per bottle)including all tax a snip!

Domaine du Petit Brouard 2003, Lalande de Pomerol
; This is a lovely soft round voluptuous wine seductive in so many ways, and beautiful to drink now. It's ripe fruit and good acidity was highlighted by the serving of wonderful fresh fois gras, making a positively decadent combination. £126 per case of 12 (£10.50 per bottle) all taxes included.

Chateau la Grave 2004, Lussac Saint Emilion; This wine suffered a little from following the voluptuous Lalande de Pomerol, and it's young vintage made this wine seem a bit gangly and unbalanced, perhaps this is being too hard as many enjoyed it. £85.80 per case tax incl.

Chateau Moulin Taffard 2004, Medoc; I liked this wine, still young but with bags of character and fruit, and a nice backbone of tannin, will improve over next year or so. £78 per case of 12(£6.50 per bottle) all taxes included.

For those of you who missed the tasting, we are mainly to blame for giving such short notice, but we will be having more and varied tastings to come . As a postscript  the canapes and delicacies put on by the Brasserie Saint Julien were exceptional and volumous. I left feeling wonderfully satiated .

Orders should be forward by e-mail to Daniel Dancygier at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it who can take all major credit cards. He has to charge extra for delivery of £15 per case within the M25, but can do free delivery for three cases or more.  Check out the prices of reasonable claret in your local wine store or supermarket, anything under £10 is pretty ordinary, and I think these prices are exceptional and would be 50% to 100% higher in a retail store!

Good drinking.
